| Agricultural policy is experiencing a period of evolution throughout the world. There is a motion to redefine the role that agriculture and the rural labour force plays in the new economy. The motivation arises from the need to redefine the role of agriculture in a manner consistent with new visions of the economy, and at the same time to ensure that the needs of rural populations are addressed in that context. Agricultural Development Policy: concepts and experiences has been prepared under the aegis of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It provides a clear, systematic exposition of important classes of policy issues and strategic considerations, and the emerging international consensus to viable approaches to those issues.
