The 8th Conference on Optics of Excitons in Confined Systems (OECS-8), 15-17 September 2003 in Lecce, Italy, continued a series of traditional world wide meetings which regroup scientists active in the area of exciton spectroscopy and physics, confined systems, and nanostructures. The conference addressed basic and applied physics aspects, material issues, and device concepts in a multidisciplinary community. State-of-the-art results in the field of exciton physics in inorganic as well as organic confined systems were discussed and compared.
