| * In 2002 the readers of Condé Nast Traveler ranked Vancouver as one of the world's top 10 foreign cities. * In 2002 the readers of Condé Nast Traveler included Vancouver Island on its list of 30 Classic Islands, denoting popular island destinations that continue to get better. * Greater Vancouver attracted 8.3 million overnight visitors in 2001. This represents a 1.2% decrease from 2000. (This decline is a result of the impact of September 11th events combined with recessions in Germany, Japan, and the United States.) * Nearly half of Vancouver's overnight visitors come from outside of Canada. The majority of foreign visitors hail from the United States, with the next largest percentage traveling from Asia and the Pacific Rim. * In 2002 Visa Canada announced a three-year marketing partnership to promote both domestic and international travel to Vancouver. The partnership will provide a number of benefits to visitors, including discounts on accommodations, entertainment, shopping, and dining when visitors pay with a Visa card.
