Frommer's® England 2005 |
| Darwin Porter |
| *Travel agents cite London as the top European destination for U.S. travelers. *About 4.3 million Americans will visit Great Britain annually and will generate over $4 billion dollars in revenue while abroad. Improvements generated during the Queen's Jubilee and the upcoming 200th Anniversary of the Royal Horticultural Society and related events are expected to draw even more U.S. travelers across the Atlantic. *A $2 million campaign by the British Tourist Authority in summer 2003 resulted in a nearly 5% increase in American visitors during the tourist high season. That surge is expected carry over into 2004 and 2005. *The relative stability of the British pound against the dollar, coupled with a large array of packages and discounts on accommodations and attractions has kept England a relatively affordable choice in Europe for visiting Americans. *While London remains the destination of choice for most travelers to England, nearly 50% of travelers spend at least one night outside of the city. *The 2005 edition of Frommer's England will feature a bonus chapter covering Wales.
